When I first heard about Twitter, I had the common response of: “what, just like FB status updates? sounds rubbish.” But since I have enjoyed using Twitter, mainly for keeping up with SEO stuff which seems to gel with the whole “real-time search” thing.
What really frustrated me, when I was still in my sceptic phase, was the sheer volume of people telling me either how great Twitter is, or how to use it, or why I practically must start using it for fear of being so far behind I might never catch up. This led to a lot of people talking about the massive growth in “buzz” for the site, and if interest was to keep growing at this rate, Twitter would be bigger than every social media platform ever, ever.
Well, the “buzz” seems to be dropping off – and I think this is because of the amount of people who have probably tried it, and realised that they don’t really need, or want it.
Don’t get me wrong – I think that Twitter if often very useful for what I use it for, but I never thought it would “catch-on” in the way that everyone kept saying it would. – Here’s to the platform that actually does do “micro-blogging” and doesn’t make me listen to people talking about making a cup of tea!

It’s totally over if you ask me. Here is what I see. Twitter is still getting new users, but they are also losing visitors at a pretty fast rate. People try it, and they quickly get bored with it or don’t get it. It doesn’t really do much besides Tweet, and you do that on Facebook, a much more popular service that is still growing rapidly.
Those visitors that quit using Twitter will most likely never come back. Until Twitter comes out with something that stops the “quit after using for a month group”, they are doomed to fail.
